7.2.2. Reappointment as Professor, Part-time

Professor, Part-time appointments, for faculty who do not meet criteria for a Full-time appointment, are reviewed every five (5) years. The number of potential renewals is unlimited. The reappointment process includes an assessment of the level of productivity, the quality of contributions, and the teaching activities of the incumbent. These reappointments are linked to the term faculty reappointment process.

Process:

Step 1: Department Head initiates faculty title reappointment

Department submits materials electronically to the OFA at: facappt@hms.harvard.edu

  • Department Head letter summarizing the appointee’s accomplishments during the past term, to include:
    • An assessment of the level of productivity, quality of the contributions, and teaching activities
    • A statement describing the source of funds to support the reappointment
    • A statement indicating the date of the candidate’s most recent career conference
    • A statement of integrity and professionalism
  • Candidate’s CV in the Faculty of Medicine format
  • Six (6) letters of support solicited by the Department
    • Candidates should not contact letter writers or potential letter writers directly; inquiries from the letter writers should be directed to the Department
Step 2: OFA reviews submitted materials
  • The OFA reviews and renders a decision regarding the proposed appointment
Step 3: Notification of approval
  • Department Administrator has access to reporting data to confirm approval of the appointment
