Professor of Clinical X appointments are reviewed every five (5) years. The reappointment process includes an assessment of continued academic engagement and faithful service. Evaluation will include nominating letters that speak to the teaching activities of the candidates for renewal, confirm their active appointments in good standing at the HMS/HSDM affiliated institutions, and discuss ongoing contributions to their department, institution, and the School. These reappointments are linked to the term faculty reappointment process.
Process:
Step 1: Department Head initiates faculty title reappointment
Please submit materials electronically to the OFA at: FacAppt@hms.harvard.edu
- Department Head letter summarizing the appointee’s accomplishments during the past term to include:
- An assessment of the level of productivity, the quality of the contributions, and the teaching activities
- A statement describing the source of funds to support the reappointment
- A statement of integrity and professionalism
- Candidate’s CV in the Faculty of Medicine format
- Six (6) letters of support solicited by the Department
- Candidates should not contact letter writers or potential letter writers directly; inquiries from the letter writers should be directed to the Department
Step 2: Dean makes a recommendation to the University
- The OFA reviews the submitted materials
- The OFA submits the Dean’s recommendation to the University
- No decision is final until the University review is complete
Step 3: University renders a decision
- The University reviews the proposed reappointment
- A final decision is communicated to the Dean’s office and the OFA
Step 4: Notification of approval
- Department Administrator has access to reporting data to confirm approval of the reappointment
- Formal letter is sent from the University directly to candidate
